Mental Health Resources

Stress is universal, how we manage the symptoms of stress is unique to everyone.  Soothing our stress response is so important in managing our symptoms and with this in mind, mHarp has created a wide variety of mental health resources to cater for different needs. 

Music

mHarp has resident musicians, composers and producers.  Their aim is to create original pieces of music for soothing the mind and body.  Our resident Harpist has studied using the harp as a therapeutic tool and been involved in composing tracks specifically aimed at relaxation and healing busy minds.  We also have a plethora of music that was externally sourced – something for everyone.  When listening to music our heart rate and blood pressure decreases, our breathing becomes steadier, cortisol levels reduce, and dopamine is released; creating a feeling of pleasure, reward and motivation.

Desk Yoga Videos

Our desk yoga videos have been carefully created to allow you to do a short yoga routine at your desk.  There is one that is so discreet, your colleagues won’t even know you are doing it.  Yoga boosts the levels of feel-good chemicals such as dopamine, serotonin and GABA, essential ingredients to feel relaxed and content.

Bibliotherapy

Otherwise known as using books as a form of therapy to help us with our mental health.  Reading gives us time to be with ourselves and a sense of peace. Novels help us to connect with characters who have a shared a similar experience and non-fiction nourishes our minds with information to help us make sense of what is happening to us.  mHarp has chosen a variety of texts that have been sensitively chosen then reviewed by our in-house book reviewers.

Psycho Education Leaflets

Written by our Counsellors to help you raise self-awareness and increase your emotional intelligence.  The more we know about our body and mind and how they are stimulated, the better able we are to manage our mental health to maintain a sense a well-being.  Anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, grief, bullying are just a few of the leaflets you will discover within our system.

Immersive Virtual Reality Scenes

Virtual reality therapy is growing in popularity and used to treat mental health disorders such as phobias, post-traumatic stress and different forms of anxiety.  mHarp is not able to offer VR therapy but we can bring beautiful calming landscapes to you, at a time you are unable to get there yourself.  Viewing these scenes will reduce stress and anxiety levels.  Our mHarp team have filmed relaxing UK landscapes in 360-degree format.  All that is needed is a set of VR glasses, which are available from as little as £1.50.

Relaxing Soundscapes

Our bodies and minds are reactive to sound.  Based on what we hear we will have a physiological response that may be pleasurable or stressful.  The mHarp team has used a binaural recorder to collect different sounds such as rainfall, birdsong, traffic, waves, steam train and racing cars to help transport you to a place that you would rather be. The binaural recorder uses two microphones that are arranged to create a 3-D stereo sound sensation.

Poetry

Our poetry is performed by the Poets themselves.  Poetry can help people consider all sorts of things from love to loss and can inspire the listener in an intimate way.  Insight and ideas can be gathered from listening to poetry. It helps us understand and appreciate the world around us. 

Podcasts

Usually 10-20 minutes in length, our podcasts are recorded in-house and involve discussions about different elements of the mHarp system and mental health.  We have podcasts on; men’s mental health, telephone counselling, yoga, virtual reality and much more.

Sleep Resources

Insomnia can be an indicator of stress for some people.  Without a good night’s sleep, we are unable to cope with the challenges of daily life very well.  The bedtime stories found within the mHarp system are original and recorded by the mHarp team. Each story will transport you to a safe, pleasurable space that calms and soothes your mind to help you prepare for a restorative night’s sleep. 

Breathing Techniques

By harnessing the power of your breath, you can manage the demands of daily life and alleviate symptoms of stress.  Breathing fully and deeply empowers the body, sends soothing messages to our brains and generous amounts of oxygen that regenerates our body’s cells refueling our muscles.  At mHarp we use graphics to guide you through conscious full deep breathing techniques.
